Both Sides Are Wondering

Both sides of the water….

I live on the west side of the water, but I have also ived on the east side. The east side is a pricier neighborhood.  The west side is, well, unique.  It  is about half price.  In California home prices in nice areas are high, in nicer areas, they are very high. We're talking about 6 to 10 versus 3 to 5. I was having dinner at a little restaurant on the west side.  It is a nice restaurant.   It has a very nice view of the island which dominates the east side.   I was thinking --- I wonder what are they doing over there on the east side. I have lived on the east side. I remember looking and wondering, what are they doing over there on the west side?

While sitting alone at my table, I see a couple across the way and I thought -- what are they talking about?  The table right in front of me is a group of 10 women --- I wonder, is this a business get together, or friends getting together, or a birthday party?  

I did not know the answer but that did not stop me from wondering what are they talking about.  It is a conundrum, as much as an exclusive community would be exclusive. The exclusive community, behind the gate, doesn't have to deal with the people outside the gate but still —- they wonder.  As curious as we are as to what those people on the east side are doing, they are equally curious as to what we are doing. 

The commonality amongst us is we are unwilling to take the risk of finding out.   We assume they are not particularly interested in finding out what is happening on the west side, but we feel the same towards the east.  We both are just left --- wondering.

It is a problem—we are just not interested in taking the risk to find out what the west side or the east side is doing.  Preferring to just stay on our own side.  We are just more comfortable being secure in our wonderment and lack of knowledge. 

The amazing part is we are doing the same thing --- I am having dinner looking West and they are having dinner looking East. 

Maybe we should stop and wonder together…..what could go wrong?
