“Don’t Be Sad It’s Over…

…be happy it happened…”

My daughter was visiting this week, It is with some effort and planning as she lives far away and “has a life.” She leaves in two days. This quote seemed most appropriate. It is most commonly attributed to Charles Schultz and Dr. Seuss. Neither is correct as the writing is ascribed to a German poet. Regardless of origin it feels fitting as I write this brief note. It was a visit of great joy—however, if you don’t have the opportunity to see or talk everyday, lengthy visits require a certain amount of honest catching up. Life isn’t always smooth and thus conversations about life are like most airplane rides —some rough air. That said, the air on those rides in the sky eventually smooths out. I am not one who enjoys or looks for conflict. I am not a Neville Chamberlain as appeasement did not turn out well. I am more of a quiet diplomacy kind which is not always the most straight forward. My daughter insisted on honest conversation. While a bit challenging it turned out to be a relief and saved hours of counseling. It has been a wonderful trip full of love and simple events with the two of us and the rest of the local family.

I will be sad on Wednesday but I am beyond happy that we had the time and are busy planning the next occasion.

You will be glad when the terrible toddler era is done but you had better bring your “A” game when the adult version asks: “How’s it going?”
